Alfonso graduated as a Chemical Engineer in 1998, from America University (Bogota - Colombia – South America). His research project “Quantification and control of Toluene Diisocyanate (TDI) in the workplace” was awarded best thesis in Chemical Engineering at National level in 1999. In 2006, he completed a post-graduate course in Industrial Hygiene at the University del Bosque (Bogota – Colombia – South America).

In 2013, he graduated with a Master’s degree in Soils and Environmental Pollution at the University of Reading (UK), where he became interested in sustainable remediation and the use of biochar as an option for the sustainable remediation of contaminated soils.

Additionally, he has been certified in General Industry Safety and Health by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration - USA). He is qualified by NIOSH (National Institution of Occupational Safety and Health - USA) to teach instructors in safety and health in underground coal mining. Further, he is certified by NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health - UK) in hazardous agents in the workplace.

He has developed and advised on the implementation of several programs on chemical and environmental risk in many companies, including within the oil and gas sector. He worked as HSE manager and technical support in PROSARC SA ESP, a company specialising in the treatment of hazardous waste. He later became the association manager in the Colombian Safety Council. Here he was an active member in several private and governmental committees for the development of safety standards and new legislation. He has also worked as a university lecturer in environmental management and industrial hygiene. In recent years, he has acted such an international senior consultant.

He is an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).


Paul Bardos is the managing director of r3 Environmental Technology Ltd (r3), a company which he established in January 1997. He has worked in land contamination since obtaining his PhD from Reading University in 1987. With the then Department of Environment began some of the first contaminated land treatment research to take place in the UK. He has a wide ranging experience in contaminated land management, in particular international approaches to management and to soil and groundwater treatment technologies. He designed the first remediation training modules for a UK MSc (with Paul Nathanail at Nottingham Trent University) and has maintained an interest in training ever since, including with CL:AIRE and the Soils and Environment MSc at Reading University, as well as at international training school events.

Dr Bardos also has an active interest in decision support for remedy selection, and “sustainable remediation”. He is involved in UK and international sustainable remediation initiatives, including for SURF-UK, NICOLE and SURF-Australia. In addition, he works to support the development and commercialisation of new remediation technologies, for example he facilitated the Regenesis market entry to the UK and more widely in Europe.

More recently Dr Bardos has begun similar work to support the University of Surrey and Forest Research “C-Cure” charcoal remediation product. This includes a sustainability comparison of their product with competing products. He is also the manager of the EUGRIS portal for soil and water management, a major resource with more than 8,000 information items. Memberships include the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM), the Society for the Environment, the British Society for Soil Science and the Network for Industrially Contaminate Land in Europe.

Biologist of the Andes University (Bogota- Colombia), she is specialist in Geographic Information Systems , specialist in planing and regional development administration at the Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Development (CIDER). Master Degree in Planing and Regional Development Administration (CIDER- Bogota- Colombia).

Research experience in urban ecology with emphasis on identification, characterization and delineation of strategic ecosystems, environmental conflict management, environmental paning of land use , public policy and environmental governance. She has high experience in coordinating interdisciplinary teams and project management, consulting on aspects of planning and urbanism.

She has worked as a counsultor and coordinator in projects for the regeneration and recovery of disturbed ecosystems, mainly on aquatic ecosystems with outstanding publications. She has participated as a speaker and assistant in various national and international events relationated with botany, ecology, conservation, protected area management, planning and environmental planning , among others.

She is an honorary member of the Colombian Network of Ecological Restoration (REDCRE) and she is member of the board of the Iberoamerican Society for Ecological Restoration (SICRE).

Environmental and Sanitary Engineering, La Salle University (Bogota - Colombia). She studied a postgradute course in Environmental Law at the University of Rosario (Bogota-Colombia).  Master Degree in Environmental Management (AMS) at the University of Los Andes.

She has a high capacity for teamwork, leadership, and coordinate interdisciplinary teams. She has directed and consulted several projects which have generated high benefits in different sectors of the country. Her vision has ensuring the growth and expansion of markets through the incursion of the environmental dimension in many companies.

She has an excellent knowledge in technical, management, academic and legal components, to develop projects, which provide sufficient capacity to generate economical and social solutions to environmental problems, with a comprehensive vision and ethical.

Studies of Legal English at the Cambridge Law Studio – University of Cambridge (England).

Advice at the ANH (National Hydrocarbons Agency) across the CCS, in Overlapping issues of Environmental issues, Representation at the Ministry of M.A.V. in the modification of the decree 1220 from 2005, referring to the overlapping problems of area licenses, Conceptualization in Environmental Law in front of the environmental auditor.
